7 Lessons Learned this Year On The Curvy Fashionista

HTML email (kfmyblog.blogspot.com)

This year has been a reflective and transitional one. I must admit that through the ups and downs, road trips and moves, and new friends made along the way, this has truly been a year of reflection, growth, and identity. All of these things that have shown itself for and in the blog and I am grateful that you are rocking with me through it all, so in true recap spirit, let me share with you the colorful lessons learned on and for The Curvy Fashionista!

7 Lessons Learned this Year On The Curvy Fashionista

Seven Lessons learned this year on The Curvy FashionistaTeamwork makes the dream work

No man or woman is an island and in this case I have been blessed to have a team of contributors and outside help to keep the machine working, especially in times where I need a break or am moving across the country. I am grateful for such an amazing team and those who have guest blogged on the site!  Dear Kirsten, Cass, Whitney, Kimberly and DJ, I thank you for all of your contributions in helping me deliver to the readers what they have been asking for! Y’all rock.

You love your shopping roundups!

Every time that I fashion one of these plus size fashion roundups, you ladies (and some men) go wild for it! SO hey, you will see more of these and different ways that you can visually shop for your faves here! It truly is amazing how and what moves you all and I am happy to learn from you!

Technically challenged…

I am sooo working on this… I “hired” someone at the top of the year to give you all the fun things that make you smile and scour the site with ease, and he literally left me hanging… I tried hooking it up myself and well, it is working, but I need something fancy… SO, I hired a new person who was fully vetted and have seen what they are bringing you! Better use of mobile and tablets, commenting ease, nicer and cleaner layouts, all with an attitude! I am so hyped about this.  Like sooo hyped. Faster load times, doper graphics, you name it, it is coming… I HEAR you when you leave your feedback! TRUST me.

When you are scared- go for it

I must admit, I am not always the confident person you may tend to see. Oftentimes I am hella scared and timid, standing at the edge of the cliff before I jump. I have gotten accustomed to jumping, but this year? I have found myself a bit more afraid, but with faith I know that even if I get a few bumps, scrapes or bruises, I land on my feet!

My Move to AtlantaThis move to Atlanta was a bit rough, BUT it was exhilarating and exciting! It has already proven itself to be beneficial in more ways than I thought and I am soooo geeked for it! This has definitely been a faith based walk and with what I have planned for the site, the blog and for you- it is a bit ballsy but surely a whirlwind of fun!

Outfits and Videos- I need to do better

Your responses to my videos (yes, I have a YouTube channel, subscribe?) and outfit posts have been quite encouraging and motivating!

Now that I have the room and the space to do so, I will be rocking out a bit more with these in fun and different ways! Are you ready? I know that I am and I am more than excited to share more videos and fits!

My Style: Holiday Style in Girl With Curves

Also, I love shooting in what feels like the woods and stuff! LOL But alas, there will be more and various types of visual content that you will hopefully enjoy!

Less is More… Sometimes

I am not sure if you paid attention, but I have scaled back the number of posts per day, from three to two. With how Facebook has been changing things (are you following my page there?) and the amount of fashion I was feeding you, I realized that you could not always get to the posts and I wanted to make sure that I gave or focused on quality that quantity in what I shared… this has been a godsend, let me tell you! I am grateful for this as it has relieved me a bit! LOL.

Experimenting is Great for the Soul/ Blog

This year, I brought you a forum, a place where you can go to and share and talk among yourselves about plus size fashion and everything in between… I am grateful to all of you who signed up, as 2015 you will see so much develop and grow out of this! I love it and you for playing along and testing the waters with me! If you haven’t signed up, please join the TCFStyle Forum here!

His Two Cents- Loving YouNot only in the forum, but I have also added a new column, His Two Cents, as I saw that a few of you questioned, assumed, or were curious about things that I knew that a man, who loves his women plus, could answer. With that, it has been a success as some of DJ’s post have been some of the most popular on the blog! Woot!

SO these are a few of the many lessons I learned with and via the blog this year… There are tons more personal ones that I have learned for another post! HOWEVER… I would love to hear from you the many lessons that you have learned about yourself! Sharing is caring!!!

What did you learn this year that has impacted your way of living, thinking, or loving? Let’s discuss…

Swing

HTML email (kfmyblog.blogspot.com)

DSC_0155

This gorgeous dress is a swing dress from Lady V London in a size 18. For reference – I am 5’7 with a long torso.

DSC_0157

DSC_0162

The dress comes with a sash to help cinch in at the waist – my favourite! It has small belt loops that the sash loops into, although a belt can help conceal them.

DSC_0174

DSC_0166

I have tried the previous version of this dress some years ago and I found it pretty tight across my arms, and so I was extremely pleased to find that this was a great fit all over – if a tiny bit tight across the bust.

DSC_0148

DSC_0150

I found the square neckline to be quite a flattering cut on a larger bust without it showing inches of cleavage – no wonder so many women choose to have this as a bridesmaid or wedding guest dress.

I adore the pretty prints that this comes in, especially this now sold out design. Keep an eye on the swing dress page on Lady V London as they are constantly restocking old and new colourways of items.

Holiday Gift Guide: 10 Beauty Stocking Stuffers for Her

HTML email (kfmyblog.blogspot.com)

Hey there! Do you all have the holiday spirit yet?? If you’re anything like me, you’ve already started making your lists and checking them twice. I am so excited about the holiday’s this year! My excitement stems from (1) knowing I’ll be able to spend a lot time with my family and (2) knowing I’ll be able to spoil my family and friends with some goodies!

When it comes to giving holiday gifts I always ask myself a few questions. For example, I ask questions like who am I shopping for? What’s their lifestyle like? What do they really need? How can I make the gift unique? When it comes to my girls, I ask myself those questions and for some reason I usually (always) go with cute and practical beauty stocking stuffers. I mean these are things I think about- to make my stocking stuffers personal and special… Take a look at what I found and am sharing with you!

Annick Goutal Petite Cherie Review

HTML email (kfmyblog.blogspot.com)
I love my Annick Goutal Petite Cherie!

Sharing my love for fragrances today. I love scents and aromatherapy but because I lived with my x-fiance who has a nose like a dog I couldn't wear any perfumes for as long as I can remember. More over any kind of scent - aromatherapy, diffuser, room spray cannot be used. He'll throw such a tantrum and open all the windows to air the house / room. Sheesh! BUT alas I am free to spray and spritz my perfumes on myself everyday and fill my room with scented candles, aromatherapy, potpourris and diffusers *joy to the world*.

Sharing today is my all time favourite day perfume by Annick Goutal. I just love and adore Annick Goutal so much and I bought their ever popular Petite Cherie perfume. They cost a bomb but oh my, I just couldn't resists such lovely fragrance. They're one of a kind, luxury must have in any girl's perfume collection.

oh I wish I have the butterfly bottle one!

my must haves - a travel size & a full size at home

A bit about Petite Cherie. It's the scent Annick Goutal created for her daughter as a gift in 1998 (how sweet). Annick had already created one before named "Eau de Camille" but later on created the Petite Cherie - an irresistible, sensual and seductive fragrance which she describes as being "reminiscent of a young girl's cheek that you want to lovingly kiss" to her daughter. You can see why I'm in love with this scent.

Petite Cherie is a sweet floral scent of pears, peaches, musky rose, freshly cut grass and vanilla (my favourite flavour haha). I can't live without this perfume, so I have Petite Cherie EDP 100ml (RM599) at home to spritz before going out and a travel size Petite Cherie 15ml (RM120) that I carry on for emergencies. Anyone else loves this scent too?.

#ZAPPOSSTYLE: Traveling Comfortably for the Holidays

HTML email (kfmyblog.blogspot.com)

You know, now that I have moved to Atlanta, I will be traveling… a lot. Back and forth to Cali or to Mississippi, I have gotten my travel game down pat, I think. And when Zappos challenged me to pick out a look to travel in I already had an idea of what I would wear for traveling comfortably for the holidays… I mean, whether it is a 4 ½ hour drive or a 5 hour plane flight, being both cute and comfy can be tricky… or not!

ZAPPOSSTYLE: Traveling Comfortably for the Holidays From Zappos, I snatched up these 512 JEGGINGS from LEVI Jeans. I must pause here for a second… It has been quite some moons since I have rocked Levi’s. I honestly thought they were never for me… until I saw that they make them in plus, they have jeggings, and the color, Charcoal black, was a neutral one! WOOT!

ZAPPOSSTYLE: Traveling Comfortably for the Holidays Let me tell you, hello booty. I really liked how my bum looked in these. BUT they have fully functioning pockets, are substantial in fabrication and are above all else- comfy!

My Tee? I have the sweetest spot for Three Dots. I remember when they first launched and were all about tees! Now that they have grown their range, carry dresses in plus, I had to rock out in this relaxed V-Neck tee. Had to. Also, I do not have one, so boom!

I paired my look with my wrap sweater from Fashion to Figure. This is the focal item and I have been dying to rock it! Perfect for bundling on the airplane, keeping myself pulled together and sooo on trend, I love this pattern and color way! I can already see the many ways to rock this!ZAPPOSSTYLE: Traveling Comfortably for the Holidays

I always travel in my boots. Especially during the fall and winter seasons- because well… they take up the most room in the luggage and most likely it is chilly enough to rock them. On top of everything else, These over the knee boots from WideWidths.com are comfy, sassy (over the knee) and are quite flexible in style.

So next time or even for the holidays, if you are looking for a few great places to shop, make sure that you check out Zappos for your plus size fashion fun! Who knew- right?

ZAPPOSSTYLE: Traveling Comfortably for the Holidays My Look Breakdown:

FashiontoFigure.com Zappos.com Zappos.com WideWidths.com

ZAPPOSSTYLE: Traveling Comfortably for the Holidays How do you dress for holiday travel? Do you have a go to outfit? Look? I wanna know!

Disclosure: Zappos provided some of the clothing, but thoughts are my own.

Shoulda Woulda Coulda

HTML email (kfmyblog.blogspot.com)The monkey-nut shells are on on the ground and the smell of illegal fireworks still in the air. Halloween is over and yet again I failed to dress up! With a million reasons why I "didn't get around to it" this year, there really is no excuse and this is my VOW that next year I will be just as unrecognisable as the rest of you. With that in mind, here are my top 5 outfits that I wish I'd worn last night!
1. The Lidl Mermaid
A costume that's also a pun? Eh - brilliant. The blue wigged clever clogs is still nameless, but we salute you Lidl Mermaid. We wish we'd thought of it too.
2. Hocus Pocus
Dressing up as the Hocus Pocus witches is the best tip of the hat to Halloween ever. Not only are you bringing the most Halloween-y movie in the world to life, but you can run around all night saying "remember winnie remember, remember winnie remember"
3. Cool Make-Up
Halloween Make-up is the biz. Whether you want to go full on Walking Dead with half your face your falling off, or sexy skeleton with fab hair, the choice is yours. I love this skeleton look with a few victory rolls, perfect combo of scary and sexy without having to buy a "sexy" costume in a packet.
4. All Out!
If we had the time or the resources, Heidi Klum's butterfly is pretty much the coolest outfit of the year right? While we may not have a team of dressers, designers, special fx artists, we could always give it a try?!
5. Tourists
My crazy friends went out last night as tourists. Dirk, Tammy and Sport donned their best tourist gear with ponchos on and maps in hand. Well done guys, I'll be with you next year I promise!

Fashion Blogger Spotlight: Becky of Mrs BeBe Blog

HTML email (kfmyblog.blogspot.com)

Did you get to know Kate of How Kate Does Fashion last week?  This week, we’re back with another UK blogger, Becky of Mrs Bebe Blog!

I’m really in love with Becky’s style.  It’s classic with an urban edge.  She gives a casual vibe to everything she wears that makes it look like she never has to try too hard.  Plus, that sexy, edgy hair… it gives everything she wears an infinitely cool vibe!  :-)  Becky is a plus size blogger you NEED TO KNOW!!

Meet Becky of Mrs Bebe Blog!!

Blog: www.mrsbebeblog.co.uk
Height: 5’7″
Age: 34
Location: Lincolnshire, UK

unnamed 2What made you want to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I was in a really bad place personally in regards to my body image, I came across plus size fashion blogs, I was so inspired by these amazing women that I started my own. It helped change my perception of myself and restore my confidence.

What are the challenges, if any, you face in being plus-size?
Shopping for the plus size body can still be a challenge in terms of variety available and fit, but things have improved dramatically. On a personal level, I still find it difficult when people judge me on my size and make assumptions about my health, but as my confidence continues to grow, I can brush it off much easier than I could have done before I started my blog.

unnamed 1What’s your favorite thing about being plus-size?
I love hearing from women who read my blog who say it’s changed their lives. When I get an email to say I have given them confidence and a new found love of fashion I’m just overjoyed, because that is what it’s all about – empowering plus size women.

What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger? A plus fashion blogger?
Getting to share my love of fashion, chatting with people who share that passion too, and getting to see all the new trends up close and personal at events.

Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
I love ASOS Curve for fast fashion. I love Elie Saab – her dresses are just stunning, and Michael Kors’ SS15 show was really strong this year – great prints and shapes.

unnamed 3Describe your personal style.
Eclectic! I love mixing high street and vintage. I’m quite casual and love nothing more than putting on my favorite pair of jeans!

Any bloggers currently on your radar?
I love In My Joi and Grown and Curvy Woman, and of course, my UK girls, Pamper and Curves, Frivolous Mrs D, and How Kate Does Fashion.

Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
Throw out the rule book, have fun with fashion, and wear clothes that you love! Life is too short to wear boring clothes!

Hope you enjoyed meeting Kate! Do you already read her blog? Any plus-size bloggers you want to see featured? Let us know below!

Are you a plus size blogger who wants to be featured? Please make sure that you contact us, and we’ll be in touch!

Off Duty Style: Mad For Plaid

HTML email (kfmyblog.blogspot.com)

Happy Hump Day all!

Each Fall I look for a statement coat whether that be in color or in print. Unfortunately finding a statement coat can be  somewhat tricky because many retailers don’t equate plus size with fashionable  which is  frustrating.  I yearn for the day when dark colored  coats are not presented as the only options for us. Until that happens, retailers such as Eloquii, ASOS and Simply Be  have stepped up by offering coats in a variety of colors and prints.   Eloquii’s plaid coat is an example of this.  It’s instantly become the  statement coat  I’ve been looking for.  It’s roomy without being bulky and versatile which is important to me. Plus it’s in red plaid!!! YES!!!

What is your favorite statement coat?

Have a wonderful day!
